When Virgil, a 55 year old male, learned that his granddaughter was diagnosed with leukemia and in need of a bone marrow transplant, he and several other family members were tested to see if they could be donors. Virgil’s blood and bone marrow were the only “perfect match” for his granddaughter so he agreed to donate bone marrow so that she could receive the needed transplant. During the procedure, bone marrow was harvested directly from Virgil’s pelvis, specifically from the bone called the ilium. The bone marrow was collected while Virgil was under anesthesia and in the prone position on the operating table

Based on the description above, especially considering the fact that Virgil was in the PRONE position during the procedure, use proper anatomic terminology to 1) describe the body region through which the ilium was accessed and

2) the direction (which side of the body) from which the bone marrow collection process was performed.
