CIVIC ENGAGEMENT (CE) AND PUBLIC VALUE
Community Leadership Project
This course will satisfy your Civic Engagement and Public Value core requirement.  This requirement asks that students take what they are learning in this course and apply it to produce something of public value for the community. This requires a student to complete a community-based experience that will inform their course work, and to use the course work to inform their community experience. A mandatory minimum of 20 hours that you will report in a special logbook (see below) are required. You are responsible for arranging this partnership with your Professors approval as soon as possible (DEADLINE: September 16th). Students can seek help through Pace Universitys Center for Community Action and Research. This organization will also assist in coordinating logistical matters as well as approving placements and monitoring engagements.

The course is designed to engage students in a meaningful set of community service activities that closely parallel many of the main tasks and functions of leadership as discussed in the course. Working in conjunction with a local community service organization, students will design and implement a coordinated series of projects related to the agency’s primary service mission. To the extent that this project succeeds, it will demonstrate how effective leadership practices can make a substantive contribution to addressing contemporary challenges in our world. The experience and skills gained in this course will benefit students who will pursue careers not only in the non-profit service sector but also to those who will participate as leaders as well as citizens in service to their organizations and community.
