Chicano history

In 1969, at the end of the Chicano Youth Liberation Conference in Denver, the organizing committee, among them, Corky Gonzales–with an “s,” unfortunately, not a “z”–issued the “Plan Espiritual de Aztlan,” or Aztlan Plan.  The Plan uses the word “Chicano” and identifies Chicanos (note there is no use of the feminine noun “Chicana” or gender-neutral term “Chicanx) as the “raza de bronce” or “the bronze race.” The Plan says that Chicanos are the true inhabitants of the American Southwest and that the Anglo Americans (gringos) are invaders.  Why does the Plan say that Chicanos are the rightful heirs to the American Southwest?  Provide at least one example to answer the question AND determine if the Plan is right to say Chicanos, not Anglo Americans, are the rightful heirs of the American Southwest.

For easy reference I include the link to the Plan:  http://clubs.arizona.edu/~mecha/pages/PDFs/ElPlanDeAtzlan.pdf
