PS 205 international politics

1.    A Realist, a Liberal, and a Constructivist meet on ship overlooking the Scarborough Shoal.  Pleasant conversation gives way to an argument over whether or not a war is likely to erupt between the United States and China sometime during the next decade.  What argument might we expect each person to make to support her position, and how might each critique the others? Whose explanation you find most compelling, and why?

2.    Explain the origin and persistence of the European Union using insights from each of the three theoretical paradigms discussed in class. What argument might we expect each of these paradigms to make, and what critiques might each have for the others?  Which argument do you find most compelling, and why?
