Translational research is gaining popularity in the health care system. The National Institutes of Health divides the translational research as method of scrutinization in two areas; the application of research, trials and implementation and the incorporation of best practices in the whole community (Boynton & Elster, 2012). The translational research is a method that aims at incorporating nursing research such as evidence-based practice into professional practice for the community. Advance nursing education should be aimed at finding ways to improve patients quality of life. I believe that nursing is not given the rightful place it merits and we, nurses have allowed for that misconception. By utilizing base-evidence practice, we are showing all the positive things that can be implemented with great outcome. It is our duty and responsibility to demand changes and push toward progress. We, nurses are expert in understanding individuals, assessing illness, collect data, process and how to apply it. This uniqueness is essential for nurse scientist to identify, the best strategies to push translational research (Cohn & Kovner, 2018).

Utilizing translational research is a great way to understand and incorporate policies and procedures that will allow for greater independence. Home health is a unique field that requires a great deal of independence, by incorporating evidence-based protocols, we can maximize better outcomes. Utilizing our professional license to its fullest, we can help work with providers as team members. A good example in our agency is the congestive heart failure patients, they are among the highest in re hospitalization and is a chronic condition that can be manage if proper guidelines and protocols are implemented in the patients own environment. By utilizing evidence base practice guidelines and protocols can be initiated and managed by nursing with good outcomes.

According to Andrew Meola, Value-based care is a type of reimbursement that rewards healthcare providers with incentives based on the quality of care they provide to patients (2019). This is the direction that healthcare is going as a whole. It is all performance based. If a healthcare provider does a good job they are rewarded. Currently at the hospital where the author of this discussion post works, bonuses and raises are based on performance. The bonuses and raises are dependent on reviews from management, coworkers, and patients. There is also an incentive program for whenever a healthcare provider gets recognition from a patient or coworker for a job well done. Every time someone gets recognized they get a certain amount of points. These points can then be used to purchase things like household items, electronics, and even all-inclusive vacations. The shift in healthcare has allowed advanced registered nurses (APN) to take their career into their own hands. Their roles and responsibilities are practically the same, but there is now more reason than ever to provide patients with the best care possible. If APNs want to make more money, they can simply provide their patients with better care by going the extra mile. While money should never be the sole reason to provide good care to patients, it definitely helps.

Along with healthcares shift to value-based healthcare, there is a newer trend called telehealth. Essentially, telehealth is the use of video chat between a healthcare professional and a patient to support long-distance clinical health care, patient and professional health-related education, public health and health administration (HealthIT.gov, 2019). Telehealth has already provided care to millions of patients. In fact, the author of this discussion post has used it and gotten medications prescribed to them. The idea behind telehealth is that patients will see a doctor more often because of the convenience of the program, and thus people will live healthier lives. Therefore, APNs will probably play a role in this newer trend. For example, nursing educators will have to expose nursing students to telehealth so that they are familiar with it and so that they can give it to their future patients as a resource for maintaining good health. Healthcare is only in the beginning stages of using telehealth so who knows what might come in the future in regards to being able to administer healthcare to patients via video chat.
