Brave New World Essay

Essay Prompt: You will craft and defend a unique argument about Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley. Your argument should aim to identify specific rhetorical choices the author made, and the result/importance of those choices.

Paper Length:
Your paper should run about 2.5 – 4 pages in proper MLA format (including MLA header on fist page) and should not exceed five pages. Your Works Cited page will appear as an additional page that does not count toward the minimum/maximum page totals.

Please consider the following elements while constructing your essay:

Introduction
Your introduction presents the text & author you are examining and uses an engaging voice to prepare readers for the very unique themes and ideas you are about to explore. It should build from a general introduction of the themes your thesis addresses and build up to your focused and specific thesis statement.
Claims/Counterclaim
Each body paragraph has a clear and unique focus – you are not just making the same argument multiple times, or skipping between multiple arguments.
Each body paragraph transitions smoothly from the previous paragraph.
Each body paragraph contains unique and detailed evidence from the text, including direct quotations that have been analyzed*, properly integrated, and properly cited using MLA style.
Your counterclaim can be introduced and dismissed quickly at the start of your first body paragraph. Essentially, you suggest a possible flaw in your thesis, then quickly dismiss it. This will show that you have considered the nuances of your argument.
Conclusion
Your conclusion should transition smoothly from your last body paragraph. In your concluding paragraph, reflect on your original thesis statement, sum up the important lessons communicated in your short story, and comment upon why these lessons are valuable.
MLA
Please use the MLA style guide that you were provided with. Your paper must be formatted according to MLA standards, include a works cited page (even though that page will contain only one source: Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley), and include proper MLA parenthetical citations
