IBM’s transition from computer design giant and subsequent fall to its reemergence as an industry leader in the related field of technology solutions/consultants.

The presentation will be 12-15 Slides with well developed speaker notes. Using the terminology and information garnered from the text chronicle this company’s evolution. This is an individual project. All researched material will be referenced. A minimum of five references will be expected.

Each paper should be no less than 6-8 pages typed and double spaced

1.    Take one specialized population:  the poor, children, women, the aged, people with physical disabilities or people with mental/developmental disabilities or other group of your choosing.

2.    Select 1 historical period (that has not been selected in the preceding assignments) and the other the present (contemporary).

3.    For each period:

    Describe economic, social, political, cultural, and demographic factors that affected how services for this group were shaped.

    What was the prevailing societal view of your group in general and of their vulnerabilities in particular?
    Describe any legacy from the past (preceding historical periods) that affected the human services approach to your specialized group.
4.  Describe the human services as it relates to your group in this period.

    Methods and common practices.  Who are the providers?  What kinds of benefits are provided?  What are they intended to achieve?
    What are the relevant laws and regulations?
    Are services coercive or voluntary?  Needs addressed/for what purpose?  In whose interest?  Those worthy of service/those not.  Specific vulnerabilities not considered.
