Emotional Stimuli

Emotional Stimuli

The autonomic nervous system (ANS) forms part of the peripheral nervous system. It controls a number of involuntary actions such as heart rate, digestion, breathing, and perspiration. The ANS consists of the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the ?fight or flight? response. It also includes the parasympathetic nervous system, which allows people to slow down and rest.

When individuals become emotionally aroused, the ANS activates and produces a number of biological and psychological symptoms.

For this Application Assignment, you explain responses to emotional stimuli.

To prepare for this Assignment:

?Review Chapter 10, ?Motivation and Emotion,? in your course text. Focus on the figure that details the contemporary model of emotion, including the role of autonomic nervous system (ANS) arousal.
?In Chapter 10, review the section entitled ?Theories of Emotion?Several Ways to Fear a Bear,? which describes the primary theories of emotion psychologists subscribe to. Notice ways in which several theories of emotion can be integrated into a comprehensive model.
