creation in 1945 Since its creation in 1945, the United Nations have been involved in conflicts resolution around the world, going from peace keeping missions to more radical methods of auto determination. The latest has been proven efficient in resolving the conflict in the Balkans region where Yugoslavia was divided into different countries to settle ethnic and political differences The recent move to Sudan gave birth to South Sudan. The conflict in the Congo has been on-going for almost two decades and may have claimed up to 8.000.000 lives directly or indirectly due to diseases and outbreaks. Lately, the international community is hinting on dividing the Congo but, could the above radical method help in resolving such a conflict in the Congolese context? This was hinted by the Assistant Secretary, Bureau ofAfrican Affairs, Johnnie Carson on February 11,2013 at the Brookings Institution Washington, DC. We would like to conduct a qualitative study about this subject with our aims and objectives being to: 1- understand the key factors ofthe conflicts in this African region 2- explore and understand Congo’s problems and dilemmas 3- undertake a critical analysis on the implication ofthe international community into conflict resolution on independent countries. lwould like the dissertation to highlight that, after analysis ofthe data, it would not good for country orforthe region that the Democratic Republic of Congo be partitioned.
