Retail Geography

Write a concise, carefully thought-out discussion of the location patterns that have been mapped, and be sure to detail the rationale for your recommendation of a new location. Reports should be approximately 2 to 4, double-spaced, typed pages in length (not including any pictures and graphics you choose to include).
The exact format of the report is up to you, but should include an introduction, conclusion and references section
In order to analyze the existing locational pattern for your retail category and explicitly relate your findings to the retail location principles discussed in class, consider the following:

? What are the characteristics of the goods sold by this type of store? Does it sell high-order or low-order goods? What does that mean, and what does that imply about how far consumers will be willing to travel to purchase it?

? What types of people are likely to purchase these types of goods?

? What is the general locational pattern. For example, are the outlets clustered or widely
dispersed?

? In which types of Berry’s retail classifications are the outlets found? For example, retail
strips, neighborhood shopping centers, regional malls, or special purpose districts (such
as auto dealer rows)?

? What types of locations seem to be the preferred ones? Are the best locations, for
example, in shopping centers, at busy intersections, along certain streets, near the
University?

? What are the demographic characteristics in the areas that outlets are located? Maps of
basic census tract–level demographic and socioeconomic and other characteristics may be obtained at http://geo.azmag.gov/maps/azdemographics/
