Role of Civil Groups in Advancing or Impeding Education Innovation

According to Spring, "American civil society was traditionally organized around the

religious principles of community service and a competitive marketplace of self-interested
groups" (2011, p. 113). Involvement in public education has always been an important
aspect of community service, and there has never been a lack of self-interested groups that
include education goals in their charters. The question is whether the involvement of these
groups advances or impedes positive change in education.

To prepare for the Discussion, review the readings, multimedia links, and websites of
groups and associations included in the media to inform your understanding of their roles
and missions.

By Day 7 of Week 5:

"Does the involvement of civil groups produce positive change or impede education
innovation?"

Cite specific examples from your own research and professional experience to support your
position.
