Answer all three questions below.

Minimum one page for each question. Make sure to use quotation marks “” and page numbers () each time you quote Camus’s text. Please, pay close attention to your written expression (avoid misspellings, follow grammatical rules, and use appropriate vocabulary).

1) In her short-story “The Woman Destroyed,” does Simone de Beauvoir present Monique as a victim or as a model? How do you think the author wants you to feel towards her main character? Why do you think that?

2) The diary. The French author chose the literary genre of the diary (or of the personal journal) when she wrote this story. What are the advantages of using this genre? What is gained through this type of writing? What are the drawbacks? What is lost through this type of writing?

3) Creative writing. Write a page of Monique’s diary five years later. Keeping in mind everything you know about the main characters, and about Monique’s way of expressing herself, imagine what her life is five years after she comes back from New York, and write an entry in her diary.
