Topic backgroundChapter 5: Diagnosis for Change:

 

Organisations are comprised of a number of interdependent dimensions. Failure to account for these interdependencies undermines the overall change objectives. In this sense, it is important for leaders and managers to be able to determine an integrated agenda for change. Therefore to effectively manage change within the workplace, it is essential that organisations have an ability to systematically diagnose change implications and requirements.

 

Assessment Task details:  3000 words Short Academic Report

 

  • Students are to critically analyse the case study, “Boeing” at the end of Chapter-5 of your prescribed text on pages 153-154 (also available through Course Resources Online) and write a formal report (3000 words)
  • Students must use at least one, and no more than, two diagnostic models from Chapter 5 of Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009).

The case report must address the following specific components.

 

1.     Summarise the high level change drivers presented in the case situation.

2.     Diagnose the change agenda using the chosen frameworks.

3.     Outline the integrated change areas that the organisation should address, arguing from your diagnostic analysis.

4.     Recommend actions (based on theories of change) that leaders can take to reinforce and maintain the changes needed.

 

Students are to ensure that they:

a.     Use Harvard Author/Date Referencing to provide a minimum of twelve (12) information sources (you may use more than twelve (12).  These sources can include a combination of books, journal articles, and reputable websites).  Books and journals must be sourced using Library databases – e.g. Discover It!, Sage, Science Direct, or Business Source Complete.  NOTE:  Information used from websites must be very carefully evaluated using appropriate evaluation criteria and all sources should be correctly referenced.

b.     Consult the various Library Assessment Help sections linked in Moodle for further guidance on completing this assessment.

c.     Consult the Guide for Students linked in Moodle for the correct format for writing the report.

d.     Refer to the marking criteria sheet for this assessment to ensure you have covered everything you will be marked on.
