Critical Analysis in EducationSystem

FINAL ESSAY
The final critique is your chance to demonstrate your insights at the final point of the course through several guided questions. The questions will relate to the readings and videos we have

watched. The questions are not designed to stump you, just focus your discussion. There will be six questions given and you will be asked to write on three.
Your paper should be a minimum of eight pages (that is to say eight full pages, references are not part of this total).

Please feel free (and HIGHLY, HIGHLY encouraged to incorporate the readings

and videos into your critique (as well as any outside readings you may deem as paramount to your work – again, HIGHLY encouraged). This is a critical essay, not a summary. I want your reaction,

analysis, and synthesis, not a book report. Responses are to be type written, double spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font, and consistent with APA formatting (no abstract is needed). You

will be graded on your use of sources, your critical insights, overall presentation, and depth of argumentation.

Questions:
(1) How would you respond to those that express the idea of K-12 education is intended for students to, “get a good job”?
(2) Based on your readings and insights, describe the negative impact that labeling has on students? Do you see a possibility where labeling can be eliminated?
(3) The American system places a heavy emphasis on grades in our K-12 environment, but does it measure learning? If you feel it doesn’t, what might be a better approach towards demonstrating

what has been learned?
(4) In what ways can we better prepare teachers to work in the American K-12 system?
(5) Detail your position on nutrition in American schools? Is our system doing enough, or is this topic not really that critical to learning?
(6) What impact do you believe the Common Core will have on learning? Will it offer more than No Child Left Behind?
