This essay will be a 1000-2500 word discussion of the overarching definition of infrastructure in view of the historical, sociological, environmental, and philosophical views on complex systems we’ve discussed in the readings and in class.

To guide your discussion, I want you to build a concept map or mind map that illustrates a summative statement that concisely indicates your answer to the question “Are Infrastructure Systems Social or Technical?” You will compose a reflective essay based on this summative statement formulated on the basis of the assigned readings in Sessions 1-5 (I will upload the readings). Your summative statement may be selected from one of the readings, or constructed from your own original idea. This map is not considered a part of your word count. Be sure to include concepts from your readings, discussion with colleagues, and in-class lectures.

Note that the number of figures you use is not limited to the concept map. You should assume considerable freedom in developing your essay. The summative statement and concept maps, however, are at a minimum to be included.
