Three stories for this week (by Oates, Jones, & Bausch) feature 3rd-person point-of-view narratives in which we are given access to a single main character’s interior consciousness  while this protagonist moves through an exterior story situation. In each story, how does the narrative modulate between interior thoughts and exterior reality?  To what degree, in each story, does this narrative technique help to generate suspense?
