John Steinbeck short story The Chrysanthemums.
Project description
The essay is about a short story by John Steinbeck named The Chrysanthemums (which you can find on-line). The main idea of this essay is Elisa Allen who is trying to make a place for herself/wants a place suited for her and how she feels trapped and how she is liberated (even though it was short lived). The main idea needs to be stated in the introduction and restated in the conclusion.
The body of the paper should consist of how the author uses words and language to back up the main idea ex: from the narrator words (how the narrator set some the boundaries for Elisa feeling trapped in the Salinas valley) ,To Elisa words, to her husband's words (how he didn't fully understand his wife) and to the salesman (how he tricked Elias by pretending to care about her chrysanthemums).
Also the body should contain how space is used in this story ex. how the hill physically closedoff the valley and how the air closed it mentally.
The body should contain the symbols in the story and how they tie back into the main idea ex. how she used her hands (scrubbed her body in the tub) and gardening. and what the stars symbolized when she was talking to the salesman.
Elisa emotional state should also be talked about how she is some what fragile in then beginning of the story and in the middle of the story while talking to the salesman she seems confidant but in the end she was more fragile then when the story started.
