Topic: WRITE AN ESSAY ABOUT AN EVENT IN YOUR LIFE THAT WILL ENGAGE READERS AND THAT WILL, AT THE SAME TIME, HELP THEM UNDERSTAND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE EVENT. TELL YOUR STORY DRAMATICALLY AND VIVIDLY.

WRITING PROCESS:
From a list of brainstormed topics, choose one event that will make an intriguing story. Do you recall Sam’s conversation to Frodo about Tales That We Remember in the second of the Lord of the Rings trilogy where he talks about perseverance through difficulties? Clearly, Tolkien’s (and C.S. Lewis’s) stories are detailed and memorable. For dramatic impact, most often your your event should be limited to one day or part of a day. Explore its significance and be comfortable with sharing it with first readers—instructor and classmates—as well as family, friends, peer groups, and (eventually) the academic community. Develop your paper through the steps of the writing process: planning, outlining, drafting, writing, revising, editing, and proofreading as detailed in St. Martin’s Guide to Writing 10th edition. Include description and dialogue.
