Writing Reaction Papers:
1. Read the article thoroughly and take notes if you need to.
2. After you read it sit back and think about:
a. Whatis the article about?
b. What point is the author trying to make?
c. What evidence does the author provide to support his/her thesis?
d. Arethere problems with the authors thinking, reasoning, or research?
e. What is your reaction to the article:For example, do you agree or disagree with the authors conclusions? Are they logical? How does this information fit with what already know or your perspective on the topic? Is there anything you would add? Is there any part of the article that is more interesting to you than other parts, explain why. Are there implications that the author has not thought of? Did you enjoy the article? Did you learn anything from it?
4. Write-up should be at most a few sentences of summary and the rest reaction. (e.g., This article is about…) Show through your reaction that you read the article and understood it, and that you can write about it a thoughtful and intelligent manner.
