The Parable of the Sadhu Dilemma

Determination of facts

In the case of The Parable of the Sadhu, it is important to pinpoint the issues at hand that need a solution without hesitation. First, the Sadhu appears exhausted with no clothes and suffers from hypothermia. It is clear that there is need to assist a fellow human being in spite of the color race or religion. Human life is more important than any other duty assigned to an individual in a corporation. There is no doubt that the Sadhu ought to come out of the cold, as they are 15,500 feet in the Himalayas.

Identification of the ethical issues involved

In life, every individual has goals that he or she aspires to achieve. In the process, we encounter individuals who are in real need of our help. At times, we could feel that this could be a hindrance from achieving our goals. McCoy has a dream to fulfil of reaching the top of the Himalaya; however, helping the sadhu could be more fulfilling since other things in life can always wait when an individual’s life is in danger. The ethical issue, in this case, is achieving a lifetime goal or being morally right with the right conscious to help a fellow human being. At times helping others appear to pull us down and away from our goals, but it is a venture worth to accomplish.

Identifying stakeholders

McCoy is with a group of workmates and other nationals from different countries in their climbing expedition. Each of them has an ambition of reaching the top; similarly, in life we have goals to achieve in our careers. McCoy has to determine whether assisting the Sadhu by taking him to safer grounds before continuing with the climbing expedition will affect attainment of his goal and the effect it will have to other team members. The dilemma at hand is the melting of the ice should he fully decide to help the sadhu. However, in life it is important to make sacrifices even if the majority could not be agreeing with you. For this reason, mc coy does not need to look at the other individuals but take the responsibility of taking care of the sadhu.

Considering the available alternatives

The situation at hand appears to be tough and making a decision on either taking the Sadhu back to the village or proceeding with the climbing is difficult. First, as Mc Coy I would decide to lose all the benefits and take him to the village since leaving the Sadhu in the cold he is likely to die. There is a need to show compassion to the sadhu other blaming him for his carelessness that has brought about the problem at hand. If I leave the Sadhu to die, it could be an inhumane and ungodly. Alternatively, since my human conscious cannot allow seeing the individual suffer, I could try to hire one of the team members to carry the individual to the village no matter how much he demands. This act of compassion shall serve my conscious right, and it is an act of responsiveness and being mindful of others. It is painful and awkward to feel that you could have done something differently but avoid seizing the opportunity whenever it presents itself.

Considering how a decision affects stakeholders

In making the decision to help the sadhu, I know there could be divergent views on my act of compassion. In the end, people will appreciate the act since at the time of helping individuals are more into themselves, and none wants to take responsibility fully but help just a bit that is more convenient for him. In view of other stakeholders, they could feel that it is unreasonable to put once job in jeopardy. However, anything that serves right and is morally acceptable ought to take place.

Guidance

It is also important to seek help from others who may have a similar opinion. In this case, Stephen appeared more than willing to assist the individual but lost hope when none appeared concerned to take responsibility fully. It could be important to identify like-minded individuals and lobby them to work together towards achieving a common goal.
