Term Paper of Multivariate analysis using SPSS
Discussion involves nutrition facts of 10 kinds of nuts. There are several kinds of nuts with milligrams that are rich in nutritional elements. Focus on the 10 kinds of nuts is of priority as they are in different types of foods.
The nutritional elements of consideration to this paper are eight; calorie, fat, protein, fiber, calcium, magnesium, phosphate and Zinc. This since they are the most common in labels of products and food, showing they are of interest to most people. The information used originates from the nut selling company, Yam Yam Hompo.
The paper used two multivariate analysis methods; cluster analysis and principal component analysis. These two methods are important in the comparison of nutrition every nut and how they relate to each other. To know the structures, a principal component analysis would be used.
Analysis shows that there is a huge distance between pine nuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. Since, the three nuts high level of magnesium, phosphate and zinc composition. Similarly, there is a difference between nuts sizes. For instance, the size of pumpkin seed and sunflower seeds are small and flat in comparison to cashew nuts and walnuts.
From Chart 2, component 1 shows nutrition which is rich in protein, fiber calcium and does not have fat and calories. Component 2 shows nutrition that is rich in zinc, magnesium and phosphate. Similarly, component 1 can be said to comprise of essentials that are high in the development of bones and muscles though low in elements that provide energy. Component 2 involves essentials vital for the body.
From Chart 3 one can say that nuts circled lack sufficient nutrition, Macadamia Nuts are a good example. Similarly, normal and dry soybeans are similar to component 2 though contrasts component 1. The presence of fiber and calcium when drying could play a role in the difference between the two. Pumpkin seed is rich in component 2 describing it as comprised of large amounts of zinc, phosphate and magnesium.
Conclusion
Using the cluster analysis, we are able to acquire two main groups related to nuts. One analysis stated that one group is rich in magnesium, phosphate and Zinc and also that there could be another aspect that can be described using size. Similarly, from principal component analysis, we are able to acquire those component 2 shows high levels of zinc, phosphate and magnesium. Some nuts are rich in some nutrition element like Pumpkin.
Nuts are different in their levels of nutrition though they all offer some form of nutrition, not considering a single element but a number of them.
