Andrea is a wealthy heiress of a hat making firm. She is also the registered proprietor of 11 Notting Hill Square, London ? a freehold property comprising a large townhouse with a sizeable garden, at the rear of which is found the old stables where horses and carriages were formerly kept, and which has its own, independent access via a road to the rear of the property.
In mid-2010, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Andrea met and fell in love with Clive, a divorcee entrepreneur. In December of that year they married and Clive, and his son Fred by the previous marriage, immediately moved into 11 Notting Hill Square ? bringing with them Clive?s collection of 50 vintage single malt whiskies.
In January 2011, Clive and Fred were jointly left ?350,000 by a distant relative. They all agreed to use ?250,000 of it to pay off Andrea?s mortgage on 11 Notting Hill Square. The remaining ?100,000 was then used to convert the dilapidated stables into a self-contained flat. Andrea then granted a 5 year lease to Martin of the old stables – he moved in immediately.
By February 2012, the marriage was becoming fraught. Clive, a self-confessed workaholic, was becoming increasingly frustrated at Andrea?s laziness and lack of work ethic. At the same time, the opportunity to buy a struggling distillery in the Scottish Highlands was presented to Clive. He decided to take the business on and informed Andrea that he would be moving to Scotland ?just for a year? in order to turn the distillery around ? he also said he wanted a bit of space which he thought would help the marriage in the long run. When he heard of this development, Fred (now running a fledging internet business) informed his father that he was staying put.
Andrea was really upset by all of this and decided upon a move to the Cotswolds. She put 11 Notting Hill Square up for sale in April of this year, and a sale price was agreed with Katherine. In May, Katherine asked to inspect the property and Andrea showed her around the house. In the study, and upon seeing all of the bottles, Katherine remarked that she liked the odd glass of whisky. Andrea responded ?I can?t stand the stuff myself ? just the smell of it makes me sick?. Katherine was then left to explore the rest of the property, during which she bumped into Fred running down the stairs and in a rush to get to a party. She asked him if he lived there, to which he said ?I haven?t got time to answer obvious questions! You know, next March I?ll be 18 and I can get away from annoying parents.? Katherine went ahead with the deal and 11 Notting Hill Square was transferred to her in July 2012, and she was registered as the new proprietor shortly thereafter.
