Visualization

This week for our journal entry we will write a “visualization”. You might ask: “What Is A Visualization?” There are many different interpretations of this term but for this class it is simply a technique of using our imagination to create what we want in our life. It is based on the concept that “If you can see it, you can be it”.

Creative Visualization is done in the first person and the present tense – as if the visualized scene were unfolding all around you; whereas normal daydreaming is done in the third person and the future tense – the “you” of the daydream is a puppet which the real “you” is watching from afar.

Write a visualization of the exact moment in the future when you are experiencing the accomplishment of your biggest goal or dream in your role as a student.
Describe the scene of your success as if it is happening to you now. For example, if your desire is to graduate from a four-year university with a 4.0 average, you might write, “I am dressed in a long, blue robe, the tassel from my graduation cap tickling my face. I look out over the thousands of people in the audience…”
To effectively visualize a dream you should:
Relax to free your imagination
Use present-tense verbs… describe the experience as if you are talking to someone on the phone at the very moment you are doing it.
Use all five senses. What do you see, hear, smell, taste, and feel.
Include emotion. Imagine yourself feeling great in this moment of grand accomplishment.
