iscuss the various components of each news source’s reporting (terms used, topics emphasized or deemphasized, styles of reporting, etc.), and analyze the biases that you feel that these things seem to represent. If the media source has a widely “accepted” bias that you are familiar with, also discuss whether the elements that you see confirm or contradict that bias (don’t only look for things that confirm the bias – be open minded and see what biases you can find, yourself).

In writing these papers, students need to thoroughly consider, analyze, and address the following: 1. Discuss the various components of each news source’s reporting (terms used, topics emphasized or deemphasized, styles of reporting, etc.), and analyze the biases that you feel that these things seem to represent. If the media source has a widely “accepted” bias that you are familiar with, also discuss whether the elements that you see confirm or contradict that bias (don’t only look for things that confirm the bias – be open minded and see what biases you can find, yourself). 2. Evaluate the elements of each news source that appear to be focused more on entertainment – trying to entice an audience toward them over competition. Describe the different ways that these things draw the viewer in, and what impact (if any) they have on the news source and its reporting. 3. Find a specific event that all three news sources report upon, and analyze the differences in how each news source frames the story and reports upon the event, as well as how that framing/reporting indicates their bias (or lack thereof).
