Here are my test results:
Based on this survey my strongest learning style is Kinesthetic and Visual. I do agree with these test results based on the few classes I took before I was enrolled in the college.
Earlier this year, I was trying to learn how to use AutoCAD software on my own. It is just one of those things that I really enjoy doing in my free time. I purchased a $10 online tutorial course. The course consists of a step-by-step video and some practice projects. So, I was following the video instructions and trying to replicate the step. In the end I concluded my learning strategies: Watch-Absorb-Replicate-Modify. Before I tried these strategies, I bought an 800-page book trying to learn the software through textbook, I realized that is not work will for me very quickly. First, English is my second language, so the reading is my biggest weakness. Even though I am still working on improving my reading skill and I am not afraid to step out of my comfort zone, but studying through Watch-Absorb-Replicate-Modify is still my preferred method for studying new knowledge.
When I am working on a new math problem, I have a tough time absorbing the information just by watching a video or illustration. It does not seem that big of different between learning a new software skill or a math problem, but I think because the math problem has more logical thinking invoked, that could be the reason I am having the tough time to learn math problem just by watching. I found out that when I am learning math problems, I perform better by reading the text instruction. Which is my weakest strength. So, at this point, my weakest strength is to become my strongest strength. Like the book says:
Studying in college is complicated because there are so many ways to study and so many different types of classes to study for. (Shushan, J. (2019). The Pocket Guide to College Success. (Pg.72) [VitalSource Bookshelf]. Retrieved from https://bookshelf.vitalsource.com/#/books/9781319262921/)
The first strategy I want use is: Use plenty of examples when you talk, discuss, present or write. (Kinesthetic Strategies To present information to other [])
That is the strategy I have been using for schoolwork and in my workplace. When I am working on an assignment, I always like to include some personal thoughts and experiences. The reason I am doing this is because I want feedback. I want to share what is on my mind at this moment, and if I am wrong and someone willing to point out where I had wronged, he can pinpoint exactly where and which step. Also, sharing personal experience is not just by providing another way that can work, it also can help to create connections between people. In my workplace, we have a program called Lesson Learned. Each one of them is based on a real situation, it can be someone producing a new idea of solving the problems or someone doing something wrong. In my opinion, we should treat learning from someone elses success and fail is a valuable lesson, because that can help us not to create the same mistake or simply find a good method to solve the problems. That is why I would like to include plenty of examples, because it not just helps me to learn, it also can help someone else to learn from it.
The second strategy I want use is: look for opportunities to apply what you have learned. (Kinesthetic Strategies To present information to other [https://vark-learn.com/strategies/kinesthetic-strategies/])
This is my number one strategy for learning new information. I believe learning is not copying and pasting. I think learning is the combination of acknowledging the critical concept and the ability to apply it to different scenarios. For me, if I dont apply the thing that I learn to practice, I will quickly forget what I just learned, even just by changing the number on the question will help me remember the key concept better. The reason I value this strategy so much is because in the real world or test, there is hardly ever I can find the question that is identical to the textbook! If I couldnt digest the knowledge I learn and apply it to the different scenarios, then I was not learning, I was memorizing!
After the test I found out my personality is: INFJ. After reding the Self-development heading, I think it will help me in these areas:
For my personal life, the context mentioned INFJs hold deep convictions about the weightier matters of life, I cant agree with this more. I believe the poppers of life should be meaningful, not only for myself, but also for the people around me. This will not only help me clearly identify my goal, but it will also help to remind me what is behind the goal about who I am and where I came from.
For my professional, the context mentioned the INFJ personality are generally “doers” as well as dreamers. This is a big advantage for me in my workplace. As I mentioned before, I work in a very demanding field that my company will not take imposable or no as an answer. Often time we need to have someone like that who can think differently to come up with a different answer and put it into practice.
For academics, the context mentioned in the INFJs has clearest insights of all the types into the motivations of others. I think that can be a big advantage for me. Because I know I am a motivation driven person, there are times that I feel that I just want to let go of the online school because of how hard it is to manage everything in my life on top of school. So, having a strong motivation is definably will push me forward along the way.
