The title of the article I have picked is Which was written by Michael B. Siegel, MD, MPH ND Clair C. Boine, JD, MPP, MA. The article was written about a study that was done on how lawful gun owners view themselves as gun owners as well as how they view gun violence prevention advocates. This was written as an informative article primarily for gun violence prevention advocates with the ability to inform lawful and non-gun owners on some of the stereotypes of the gun community. The article was effective informing article gun violence prevention advocates, through the results of a public survey on gun owners in the United States, of possible effective engagement topics with gun owners to counter perception.

The focus of the article article is that typical gun owners in the United States own a gun primarily for the reason of defense of themselves and their home. There is an ironic self-view that U.S. gun owners have, a typical gun owner participates in regular gun-related activities, including concealed carry, which in fact the majority of gun owners simply own guns for defense at home. The article also speaks on how the gun owner culture believes that, due to stereotypes created by the mainstream media and major firearm advocates like the NRH, gun violence prevention advocates are trying to remove all guns from lawful gun owners.

Types of evidence/support is one of the strategies used in this article, it uses the results of an Ipsos survey of 2,086 gun owners. The survey covers many different forms of information taken from gun owners around the U.S. without significant differences in urban status, race, political party, income, education, sex or age. The survey measures gun-related activities, the symbolic meaning of guns, attitude towards the gun control movement, civic engagement with gun violence prevention and gun owner identity.

Another rhetorical strategy used in this article is appeal to logos because of the large use of facts. This article really depends on the use of surveys to get all the facts of how gun owners feel. The use of tables in the article helps aid in the appeal of the logic of the reader by giving a graphic to reference while reading. The authors also use statistics in the body of their writing, showing how they logically arrived at their conclusion.

In conclusion the authors effectively gave all the information that was collected which successfully informed gun violence prevention advocates, through the results of a public survey on gun owners, of possible effective engagement topics with gun owners to counter perception of gun owners in the United States. The article gave evidence in different forms which was more appealing and made the read more informative.
