MACRO Midterm Presentation Project

For this project, you will select a country (not including the US, China, Canada or Mexico) and create a PowerPoint slideshow on it. You may choose to work with a partner, or as part of a group (no more than 3 people.)

Note: You will be graded individually for this midterm project and it is worth 20% of your grade.

Categories to be covered in your slides:

1. GDP information and what are the biggest sources of revenue in their economy:

Provide detailed GDP information for your country, including:

-Total GDP (Usually nominal only is available)

-How big their economy is (RANK if available)

– What their GDP growth rate is (%)

-GDP Per Capita (Usually nominal only is available)

– What is the biggest sector of their GDP (GDP by sector) and what % does it make up

· ex. Agriculture, industry, services…

· what major companies does the country have in these sectors?

-Top exports and imports

– The biggest sources of revenue, ex. Investment and exports, and if their net exports are + or – (if information available)

2. Economic Growth:

-What is their economic growth rate? (see guide below)

· GDP Growth Rate in Italy:

· averaged 0.59 percent from 1960 until 2018.

· ex. Italy's economy shrank 0.1 percent on quarter in the last three months of 2018.

-What has been done lately to stimulate their economy? Where are they headed? Are they stagnant or do they see growth? What concerns have been expressed about their future?

-What is the current inflation rate? What is it usually?

3. Unemployment information:

-Discuss rate and changes. Where there any major recent events that caused dramatic changes?

-What is the biggest employment sector, and where are jobs headed?

3. Facts and Statistics

– ex. Interesting facts about the economy (inventions, culture), how their culture affects their consumption, how their priorities affect their economy.

– This is the area where you can focus on “tourism.” What makes it such a great country to live in, work in, etc.

(Wikipedia for “country you selected” economy ex. “China’s Economy,” uses the CIA world factbook in the order of the information I requested on the column to the right. While I prefer you use the factbook first, I presume most of you will start here. Please verify that the information is correct.)

– GDP/Econ growth/Unemployment:

– information should be from 2018-2019 at the latest.

NOTE:

-This list is the BARE MINIMUM of what is expected; the quality of your presentation (slides that are simple to read and understand and include graphs, pictures, etc.) are important. You are expected to read articles on your country and the category you are covering.

-This will be worked on “in class” AND on your free time. It is a midterm worth 20% of your final grade, so treat it like so.
