From the words for the shout of the army.  Sluagh-ghairm.  Slogan.  It means war cry (243).  Analyze this essential quality of slogans in the novels broader depiction of contemporary public language (including but not limited to the sections that begin each of the novels three parts).  What is Smith showing about how we live in language today, and how does this reflect the concerns of plague writing weve discussed so far this semester?
