John Muir, “A Thousand-Mile Walk to the Gulf”

Select a naturalist and focus on a SPECIFIC WORK he /she was responsible for.  The work can be an essay, a short story or a chapter from a book they wrote.

The work you select to write about must be at least 10 pages in length.  Any selection that is shorter must first be approved by me. I suggest you select something with adequate volume that it will provide enough material to write about for 4 pages.

Give only a BRIEF background of his/her life.

Discuss the specific work you selected. Be prepared to explain in detail:
o    What the written piece was about.
o    Why and when did the author write it?
o    How did it impact society?
o    Your own thoughts.

Feel free to incorporate the analysis and critiques of other writers.

Explain how the work has impacted a group of people and /or society.  THIS IS THE MAJOR PART OF THE PAPER.  REALLY MAKE A STRONG CASE FOR THIS.
