Lady Bird Johnson, Women’s Transition Paper

This is all the professor had to say about the project. Very vague, I know.

Students will research one US woman who through her leisure/recreational travel discovered a condition (or set of conditions) that disadvantaged girls and women in the United States.  As this woman engaged in her recreational pursuits, she began to realize that she had the power to change and improve life conditions for others.  Her outreach may have resulted in fundraising, the establishment of a cooperative to improve economic conditions, setting up schools or scholarships, housing policies, establishing a non-profit, etc.  While the indirect benefit to the disadvantaged women (and girls) may have been to improve access to recreation and leisure opportunities this paper is really about the woman on whom you are focusing this papers revelation, and thereby transformation, through her personal leisure.  This 10 page paper incorporates foundational discussions of personality, leisure travel and video content presented throughout the course. How did this womans observation, reaction, and attention lead to empowerment for other girls and women?  Note: Some example may be found among non-profit and non-governmental organization founders leading human rights projects for women, both I the United States and internationally).
