The Hate U Give movie trailer

Assignment, Audience, Situation/Purpose
Prompt: You will choose a piece of media related to the film you chose as your focus for Project 1, and analyze it to find its significance or meaning. This piece of media can include the films poster, a scene from the film, the theatrical release trailer, a toy (stuffed animal, action figure, etc.) from the film, a video game or comic book adapted from or to the film, a favorite t-shirt from the film, a board game adapted from or to the film, or anything else you can justify to me.

Your analysis will center on particular elements of that object, breaking each one down to discover the unique or interesting message or idea of the object projects.

Audience: Internet-savvy, U.S. Millennials who subscribe to blogs related to the film you have chosen (either by genre, cult-following, time period, or other details). They want to not only be entertained but also to learn something new or interesting about your film that they havent heard before.

Situation/Purpose: Blogs have particular conventions, styles, and tones. Read up on a few if you are not familiar with these aspects. You are free to explore what genre of blog you wish to emulate, but you must be consistent with the style you choose. Will you use hyperlinks? Will you be humorous? Will you play with color, font, and other visual cues? Make choices, stick with them, and most importantly, be creative.

Genre: Blog Post

Key Details
You will need a thesis statement for this project. Blog posts are not immune to a guiding sentence that identifies the main argument and also previews the structure of the text. A good thesis will a) identify the film you have chosen and the particular media you are analyzing, b) articulate the main argument stating the message or idea inherent in the media, and c) preview the structure of your blog post.
You will not summarize the plot of the film you choose. Assume your reader has seen the film. You may address or identify key actors (and their respective characters), the director (and any other relevant work they have done), the year of release, etc., and, if necessary, you may use details and plot points as evidence for how the piece of media you chose has meaning, but pulling paragraphs of the summary to pad your paper is unacceptable for this project.
You should consider your audience closely for this project. They may be the same generation as you, or at least adjacent to your generation, so they probably will understand most of what you discuss. However, Millennials is a broad group (including individuals born roughly between 1981 and 1996), so they have had vastly different life experiences. Make sure you thoroughly explain details, events, and other aspects of your project so that your audience understands, and is on board with you.
You may include screenshots, clips, gifs, or other media from the film you choose, if necessary to provide context for the significance you identify and discuss. This does not count toward the expected word count for this project and should be formatted appropriately (wrapping text, citing in MLA style, etc.).
You will be expected to create a Sway as your product for this project. We will cover how to use this Microsoft application in class, but it is up to you to make decisions about the design of your blog post given the functionality this program provides. REQUIRED: You must embed your piece of media.
You will need to cite the film you chose in MLA style in a Work Cited page at the end of your blog post. Please review how to cite films in MLA via The Learning Hub (Links to an external site.) or the Purdue OWL (Links to an external site.).
You need at least one reputable source in this paper. While you do not need an academic, peer-reviewed article per se, you must find something that is credible, relevant, recent, and appropriate for your blog post. You will need to cite this source appropriately in MLA style.
