General Ethical Perspectives
After reading Chapter 5, explain what it means to seek the “common good” as a leader. Identify the “common good” in an issue facing your university or community or an issue recently in this news that interest you. Do not use any of the common good examples stated in the text. What is the “common good” in your example? Discuss opposing sides of the same issue thoroughly and possible consequences for each. With depth, defend your own viewpoint in your example. Your viewpoint is important. What side do you believe is best for the common good and why? From the text, use pages 194-197(Utilitarianism Section) for your initial discussion. Other concepts in Chapter 5 can be also be cited that best fit your “common good” example. Include references to your readings in the text citing page numbers as it relates to your initial discussion.
