11-36. Message Strategies: Rejecting Suggestions and Pro-posals [LO-5] Imagine that you are the president of a student club or some other campus group that is unaffiliated with any larger national or international organization. (It can be any type of organizationrecreational, charitable, academic, cultural, professional, or socialbut try to use a real organization, even if you arent a member.) Youve just received a message from someone who is the president of a similar club in another col-lege or university, proposing to form a national organizational structure. Her proposal has some appealing aspects, includ-ing unified branding and recruiting, the opportunity to share best practices, and the chance to socialize with and learn from like-minded students across the country. However, after talking it over with some of your members, you decide its not right for you. You believe that the time, trouble, and costs of being part of a national organization would outweigh the benefits it could offer.
