US HISTORY

After the French and Indian War, Great Britain controlled most of North America, spectacularly defeating its age-old foe. Using the textbook and other assigned readings, discuss how the British governments attempts to control and regulate its North American possessions during this tumultuous era show that history is full of unintended consequences. How did the aims of the British measure up against the results of their actions? Give several examples (for example, how the desire for land played a factor) to support your argument.

Finally, once the American Revolution began, how did foreign help–for example, French and Spanish support–affect the outcome of the war? Give several examples of how and why to support your assertions.

An excellent answer for the essay will address the who, what, where, why, and how of the question to frame your answer. It will use at least:

– six references to the chapters.

– a reference to both podcasts in the section.

– a reference to one of the Wikipedia articles you wrote about in the discussion area for this section of the course.

– 2 images or documents from The American Yawp Reader: Colonial Society Reader.Links to an external site.

The citations should be in-text citations, and be clear to the reader what they are. For example, if you cited something from page 57 or Section 2.1 in the US History textbook, it would look something like this:

The colonists organized the society around his beliefs, like the Native Americans. This led to “a society with laws,” a legacy we live with today (p. 57, US History OR Section 2.1 US History).

If you cited something from your Wikipedia article, you would identify the article. For example, if you cited the “Black Death” article, it would look something like this:

The Black Death led to enormous population loss and had major consequences on the entire world (paragraph 2, Black Death Wikipedia article).

An excellent answer will address the significance of the topic for this course and make connections between the topic and our world today.
