Any topic (writer’s choice)

As you write your initial post for this week, keep the following goals in mind:

-Interpreting an author’s purpose, rather than a character’s purpose; engaging with non-fiction

-Engaging with complex perspectives

-Themes or issues raised by the text

Discussion Prompt: Based on your reading thus far…

What do you think motivated the author to share this story? What are some of the key themes or issues raised by the text? How did you respond to the author’s “voice” discussing her subject matter?
Do you think the author is trying to elicit a certain response from the reader, such as sympathy, anger, intrigue, etc.? How has this book changed or enhanced your perspective on the author’s subject matter? (labor, temporary employment, corporations, amazon, etc.)
Discuss the book’s structure and the author’s use of language and writing style. How does the author draw the reader in and keep the reader engaged? What surprised you about the style, if anything, and how does this compare to other non-fiction or memoirs you’ve read? Does the author convey her story with comedy, self-pity, or something else? Keep in mind there may also be a variety of tones.
