A prcis is a terse, focused piece of writing that summarizes precisely the arguments of a given reading. The primary task is to identify the main thesis (or theses) of the article. It is best if you can give one or two direct quotations, in the authors words, with page numbers in parentheses. You should also include a
few sentences of critical response: What was the authors argument? Was it convincing? Was it based on good evidence? What needed improvement? Did you want to know more about a given subject? Was the writing lucid or opaque? How did it relate to any other readings?
