How the internalization of capital markets is affecting the demand for and training of accounting professionals in Southeast Asia Follow the criteria and grading rubric below in preparation of your research paper. Chose a unique sub-topic that relates to international accounting and reporting. You may use the cases at the end of the chapters to inspire your choice. Suggestions include: o The impact of internationalization on a particular industry or even a particular company. o How internationalization is affecting the reporting of a class of items on the financial statements such as inventory, depreciation, goodwill, derivatives, pension liability, or any other item or class or items. o How the internalization of capital markets is affecting the demand for and training of accounting professionals in a particular country or region. Your topic should not be identical to that of any of your fellow students. For instance, if another student has already chosen a particular industry or country, you can still do a similar paper, but you will be informed and will need to choose a different company or region. Choices will be based on the time of the email to the instructor that expresses the choice. Sources should be drawn from English language sources that are available through Evans Library. Internationally recognized practitioner journals such as œStrategic Finance and œJournal of Accountancy should be chosen as the primary sources. Other appropriate periodicals include œThe Wall Street Journal and œBusiness Week. Your paper might also require you to research and read and interpret the International Financial Reporting Standards. An excellent paper might require you to find sources that discuss the impact of proposed or adopted international accounting treatment in general terms, research what the treatment has been under national accounting criteria in your chosen country or industry then analyze how the proposed or enacted change would affect your chosen country or industry. An acceptable paper might find sources that discuss the implications of the move toward international accounting and reporting on a particular region or industry and summarize this information. The following grading rubric will be used in evaluating your work: 40 pts 30 pts 20 pts 10 pts Topic Topic is well chosen, requires some analysis and application of material from sources. Paper includes appropriate use and citation of sources. Topic is inappropriate and/or sources are both misused and inadequately or inappropriately cited. Logical structure Paper includes introduction, body and summary with logically structured and well supported points in body of paper. Paper has some deviation from the proposed structure of introduction, body and summary with logically structured and well supported points in body of paper. Paper has significant deviation from the proposed structure of introduction, body and summary with logically structured and well supported points in body of paper. Paper structure is so poor that following the analysis or application of sources is impaired. Cogent discussion, analysis, conclusion and summary Discussion follows logically from main points and both conclusion and summary are well supported by body of paper There are minor incidences where the logic of the main points and conclusions and/or summary is poorly supported. There are significant incidences where the logic of the main points and conclusions and/or summary is poorly supported. The analysis is completely inadequate to support the conclusions of the paper. Grammar and sentence structure There are no incidences of sentence fragments or disagreement of subject and verb and paragraphs are well formed There are minor incidences of sentence fragments or disagreement of subject and verb, and poorly formed paragraphs. There are significant incidences of sentence fragments or disagreement of subject and verb, and poorly formed paragraphs. There are repeated incidences of sentence fragments or disagreement of subject and verb, and poorly formed paragraphs. Appropriate length and depth of treatment Subject is adequately covered in a paper of between five and seven pages and scope of discussion is appropriately detailed. Paper is over or under given limits or it is inappropriately lacking in depth of treatment, overly wordy or repetitive. Paper is significantly over or under given limits or it is significantly lacking in depth of treatment, or is excessively wordy or repetitive. Paper is completely inadequate in either depth or degree of detail or treats an insignificant topic in excess detail.
