For this activity, you must read and respond to Elizabeth Bishop’s poem œThe Fish. Begin by first completing the following steps: 1.READ the poem, first silently, then ALOUD: 2.LISTEN to a reading of the poem: Follow the below steps to complete your close reading and discussion of Elizabeth Bishop’s œThe Fish. 1.Review the in-depth analysis of the poem at the Bedford St. Martin’s site: 2.Read three (3) of the literary elements as applied to the poem (click the tab for Elements of Poetry). 3.Read two (2) of the literary analyses of the poem (click the Critical Approaches Tab). 4.Post your personal interpretation of the poem’s theme, and include the following:a.Identify at least two (2) literary elements in œThe Fish that contribute to the theme, and support your identification with a quote or two from the poem. b.Discuss one (1) critical approach you read that applies to œThe Fish in discussing its theme. c.Explain how the information you read and/or listened to contributes to your personal reaction, either supporting or challenging your personal interpretation of the poem. Remember to include a quote or two from the poem to support and illustrate your discussion. Your post should be at least 125 words and employ correct APA Style of cited quotes from your readings. PART B After reviewing the background information and assigned readings provided for Sharon Olds and Wole Soyinka and their two powerful poems exploring race relations, you are asked to compare and contrast the poems in your initial discussion posting of at least 150 words and to respond to at least two (2) fellow students postings in no fewer than 50 words. Remember that you should use the close reading method and/or the explication method given in this module to gather evidence and quotes from the poems to support your thesis. For the poems, you are to read: 1.œTelephone Conversation by Wole Soyinka 2.œOn the Subway by Sharon Olds In no fewer than 150 words, discuss the one (1) specific theme the poems share, answering at least two (2) literary analysis questions (e.g., tone, diction, setting, context) to support your discussion, and using at least one (1) quote from each poem to support and illustrate your points. Your post should be at least 125 words and employ correct APA Style of cited quotes from your readings. Also respond to two of your peers in no fewer than 50 words per response and explain why or how you agree or disagree with their close reading, supporting your response with quotes from the poem.
