General Paper Guidelines As you research your topic, remember that your paper must include the following: · Guiding research questions that are the focus of your project · Specific details to support your thesis and conclusion · You should connect your research and conclusions with well established studies and the works of various credible researchers in the fields of political science, economics and/or sociology. Sample Guiding Research Questions · Plaguing problems for the country from western & local perspectives · CHOOSE ONE of the following: · economic underdevelopment: causes & examples, level of economic development & industrialization, income distribution, taxation, land ownership · social underdevelopment: causes & examples, level of education, literacy rates, life expectancy · political underdevelopment: causes & examples, suffrage, media, public, and political participation · Government role in any of the above · Citizens role in any of the above Organization of the paper 1. Title that indicates the question(s) that you are answering. 2. The research you do is written in paragraph form “ 3- 5 pages, rules of APA for margins, type size and format. The number of pages is for text only!! ALL lists of citations, bibliographies and pictures are in addition to the 3 “ 5 pages. 3. Any pictures or graphs etc. MUST be put at the end of the paper. 4. Times New Roman 12 font ONLY !!!!! 5. The introduction provides an over-all focus to your research writing; the introduction includes the time frame, background, major points, and a clear, well developed thesis. This is usually 15% of your paper in length (approximately). 6. The body of research provides proof for your thesis and evaluates the topic and subtopics. Body paragraphs also include analysis from established sources. This is NOT an opinion piece. 7. The conclusion recaps the major points of the research and ends in a generalization of your thesis statement. This is usually 15% (length) of your paper. 8. The paper must contain parenthetical references. Each cited source must have at least one corresponding notation. These must be properly cited according to APA format. 9. The credits section, entitled œWorks Cited, follows the APA format; this includes all research and quoted materials within the written work. DO NOT list a source that you have not cited from in the text of your paper.
