Review a few editions of your local newspaper, a national newspaper or find newspapers from Texas, New Mexico or California. Look for stories about immigration, and count how many times you find the frames mentioned in œWhat’s In a Name? (Lind, 5.2) What do these frames tell you about the people who are here without permission? What do these frames tell you about the reporters and newspapers that published these stories? Look for two sets of stories, one about immigrants from Central America and one about immigrants from Asia, Africa or Europe. Find at least two articles for each set. Compare the framing of immigrant groups from C.A. to those from other parts of the world. Are the stories about certain immigrants framed more positively than the stories about others? Interview a member of the media who is identified as a member of an immigrant community. Ask your interviewee what insights he or she has into the unique challenges of reporting on news about immigrant groups.
