As weve seen, individuals are shaped by the groups to which they belong, willingly or unwillingly. Very often our identities are shaped by the characteristics that society attributes to the individuals belonging to certain groups. Gender preferences are differentially accepted in societies, for example. Even racial categories are differentially established by social forces working within specific historical contexts. All this becomes evident when you complete your readings for this week.

Patterns of domination and subjugation are often associated with group characteristics. In many societies, conquest plays a role in establishing which group is top dog. Once domination is established via conquest, social structures develop to maintain the relationship between the conquered and the conquerors. So it was with the France and the Algerians, the British and the Indians, and the United States and the Native Americans and African slaves.

The institutionalization of the structure of dominance and subservience can be clearly seen in the history of slavery in the U.S. Slavery was legal until 1865. After its abolition, social structures continued to exist that attempted to maintain the segregation of the ex-slaves and their descendants from participation in civil and political life.

Affirmative action programs were put in place in the 1960s to break down some of these structural remnants of slavery. In the readings, you are exposed to arguments which support the maintenance of Affirmative Action programs as well as arguments for their abolition. Using the readings (and links) as your basis, present your argument for or against the continuation of Affirmative Action programs. Use the readings, dont just state your opinion. everybody has one.

This module addresses the conditions under which systems development becomes confused with a range of other organizational problems, where the results can be less-than-optimal combinations of social and technical systems. To begin with, it will be useful to review the general topic of “organizational politics” and the conditions under which political games are played in organizations.

Carried to extremes, organizational politics, combined with other factors, can result in what are sometimes called “death march projects.” Here are some sources describing this phenomenon.

Read the assigned readings, supplemented if you wish with material from the optional readings and perhaps the supplementary background as well, and even other outside reading you might find by yourself to be useful. Look at this video on best practices in Project management.

Then write a short paper discussing how project management practices can help reduce politics and “death march projects.”

Your paper should be short (5 page, to the point. It is to be structured as a point/counterpoint argument, in the following manner.

You are expected to:
Begin this paper by stating your position on this question clearly and concisely
Citing appropriate sources, present the reasons why you take this position. Be sure to make the most effective case you can.
Then present the best evidence you can, again citing appropriate sources, against your position — that is, establish what counterarguments can be made to your original position.
Finally, review your original position in light of the counterarguments, showing how they are inadequate to rebut your original statement.

By the end of your paper, you should be able to unequivocally reaffirm your original position

In this chapter (page 39) we can read about Searles (1976) speech acts classification. This author classified speech acts into five categories: representatives, commissives, directives, expressives, and declarations. Could you give one or more examples that represent your experience with English language for each of the five categories?

Also, one of the articles (Boxer&Pickering, 1995) explains how ESL textbooks do not give as much emphasis to indirect speech acts as to direct speech acts. Could you suggest any idea of how to make our students learn this important part of the language (indirect speech acts)? Do you think they actually need to learn it? What are the strategies we need to follow as teachers to have indirect speech acts present in our classroom?

These are my assignments the only thing you have to do is to answer the questions and the following questions are:

1) The major religions of the world came into existence hundreds of years ago. While in most ways we don’t behave like individuals living hundreds or thousands of years ago, many of us still shapes much of our lives using the guidelines set forth by ancient religions. What do you think makes religion an apparently permanent dimension of human life? Can religious beliefs survive in the scientific age? Are they resoundingly outdated? Or, is there something in them of great importance, even if the way they are expressed will have to change given new scientific context?

2- As the readings for this week remind us, your sex is determined biologically (even if within a continuum) while gender roles are socially established. So, when we hear someone tell a male act like a man, the assumption is that this person has male biological parts and therefore must adopt the male-appropriate gender role.

Similarly, when a woman is advised to act like a lady. So What does it mean to act like a man in our society? And like a lady? What if your man and dont act like a man? Or a woman that does not act like a lady? How does society respond to those who do not fall neatly into the sex=gender role box? Discuss.

Using Blooms Taxonomy educational theory discuss the theory briefly, and explain how it will fit into specialization of teaching middle school math applications in a special educational setting . Compare the theory to teaching math to general education classroom and Reference Gagnes Theory.

Remember, any well-written essay contains the following elements: an introduction, a thesis, a body that demonstrates that thesis using evidence and argumentation, and a conclusion.

Introduction
Topic Statement — a sentence (or several) telling your reader what you are writing about. This means that the reader should be able to figure out from the first couple of sentences who, what, where, and when you’re writing about.

Thesis Statement — a sentence (or more) telling your reader what you are going to argue. A good thesis statement tells the reader not simply that you are going to explore the impact of the Revolution on African Americans, for example; it also tells the reader something about what that impact was (good, bad, mixed) and in what ways (political, economic, religious).

The thesis is different from the topic statement in that the thesis takes a stand on a question. In a sense, the thesis statement explains the internal “why?” of the paper. The external “why?” is the paper is, for most of you, the simple fact that you have to write the paper to pass the course to get the credit to get your degree. But the internal “why?” is the heart of the matter: it indicates to your reader that you are not simply listing facts, but attempting to arrange them in a particular order to explain and demonstrate something about the past. The thesis statement is, implicitly, an answer to a question: why should readers care about the who, what, where, and when they just read about in the topic statement?

Body
The main purpose of the body of the paper is to prove your thesis. To do this, you need to provide evidence sufficient to prove your case, and you need to explain how that evidence proves your argument. Evidence includes quotations from primary and/or secondary sources.

Conclusion
The conclusion should summarize the main points of your argument. This summary is still part of the argument, so you cannot simply write: “As I have shown, Massachusetts was the best colony for servants.” It may help to think of the conclusion as if it were the closing argument made by a lawyer in a case you need to remind the judge and jury (your readers) of what you are arguing and why your case is convincing. You do not want to bore or insult your readers, however, and you do not want to undermine your case, so you should be brief and to the point. It can be effective to suggest the larger significance of your argument or raise some further questions, but this is difficult to do well, so you may prefer to quit while you’re ahead.
Title of the Essay: Please remove your shoes

I am a Filipino and i was brought up to remove my shoes whenever i am going to enter my home or other people’s home. My Professor’s comment: It should not be about disrespecting culture but more of “ignorance”. He also doesn’t want me to mention “culture” but more of a “rule” Please also mention that i have a sign by my front door that says “please remove your shoes” and except for my filipino families, my 7 year-old son and my white husband, no one had ever removed their shoes when they entered my home.

Professor also wants me to mention that this is a Filipino way of doing it (removing shoes)

I am very annoyed with this because my family and I walk barefoot inside the house; my floor is squeaky clean and i don’t want to clean all the time. (please add some more reasons if possible).

What I did to prevent this: I tried to put up a sign by the front door that says “please remove your shoes” so people can see it. I tried to remind them to remove their shoes which is awkward.

I might try to relax sometimes and realize that this is an issue that I have to deal with from time to time. Since I am going to experience this situation for the rest of my life, especially when my in-laws are visiting with their shoes back and forth, in and out of the house, I think, it would be best for me to just take a deep breath, count 1, 2, 3 and exhale!

Don’t sweat the small stuff, it’s all small stuff! Stress can do me more harm than good. But i hope that people will respect the house rule.
There are three question the research should be talking about.

2) What is the new Technology?
