You will find the next writing assignment in Ways of Reading: An Anthology for Writers on pages 735-736, Assignment I “Foucault’s Fabrication.” Read the assignment carefully. Assure that you begin with an outline, and then formulate a clear thesis statement (please underline your thesis statement). You can literally use the assignment to shape your essay. This assignment will require the following:

·      Introduce the background of the work including title, author, and any pertinent background information.

·      Use Modern Language Association Style (running head, in-text citations, quotes with analysis, block quotes or passages,

·      Times New Roman, 12 point font

·      No personal pronouns or contractions

·      Proofread your work

·      Assure the every paragraph’s topic sentence supports your thesis

·      Spell check and read through your document

·      Review “Academic Writing” in you handbook

·      Page count = 5-7 pages

·      Use at least 3 additional sources (1 Peer-reviewed journal, 1 book, 1 Internet source)

Evaluation and Grading:

Evaluation of Essays: Essays will be judged based on successful demonstration of these five criteria:

1)    Focus on a specific assertive thesis/ primary claim in response to reading (and research);

2)  Clarity of organization;

3)  Support of claims with evidence;

4)  Awareness of multiple, conflicting perspectives on complex issues;

and,

5) Correctness.

“A” paper will exceed expectations in all five areas – demonstration well beyond the requirements of the assignment;

“B” paper will demonstrate well in all areas with exceptional performance in one or two;

“C” essays will fair well in all five areas;

“D” and “F” papers will be lacking significantly in two or more of areas.

Please note: Footnotes do not replace in-text citations and Works Cited entries. If you are not using footnotes for additional information, do not use them at all. Review “footnotes” and their usage in your handbook. Do not use online sources for documentation; use your handbook.
