General Format Your paper must be typed, double-spaced, and 3-4 pages in length. You MUST use 12-point font, and Times New Roman. Be sure to use standard one-inch margins in accordance with MLA guidelines. Also, your paper must contain a double-spaced header in the upper left corner, which contains your name, Instructor Brittmon, Analytical Essay 1, the course and section number, and the due date. In addition, your paper should include a title and a Works Cited page. Please include your last name and the page number in the upper right corner of each page of the paper. Specific Guidelines Your essay is based on your interpretation of the literary works. Do NOT use secondary (outside) sources. Use the literary works, other material from the textbook, and the lecture notes only. If you use outside sources, your grade will be severely affected. You should incorporate what you have learned through lectures and class discussions. Do NOT plagiarize. Plagiarism will result in an “F” on the paper. Your paper must include the following: • An effective thesis statement/claim in the first paragraph • Support in the form of quotations and paraphrases. You MUST incorporate short quotations from the literary works. Be sure to include in-text citations with each quote or paraphrase. Please do not include extremely long quotes in your essay. • A Works Cited page -Treat the literary works as works in an Anthology. • Be sure to mention the names of the authors and the title of the literary works in the first paragraph.
