Crime analysis is becoming more popular, especially in larger police departments and at the federal level. It can help in targeting potential problems, deployment of personnel, and tracking crime trends. Based on the reading assignment for this week, address the following:
- What are the advantages of crime analysis to local law enforcement agencies? Is it worth it to have a crime analysis department in a law enforcement agency? Explain your answers.
- What impact does crime analysis have on geographic profiling?
- Should crime analysis personnel be drawn from the ranks of sworn or civilian personnel? Explain your answer, as well as the reason(s) drawing from one group or the other would make a difference.
