The Age of Turbulence, a New York Times bestseller written by former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan. For extra credit, read this chapter and hand in a 2-3 page double-spaced (its okay if you go over) paper on the day of the final. The maximum you can get is 1.5 points added to your overall grade. Other than the paper being typed and double-spaced, the only other thing I ask is that every time you cite an idea/quote, include the page number in parenthesis after the sentence. For example: Greenspan mentions that there is a drive to be both "the aggressive entrepreneur and the couch potato" in each of us (Page 268). Here are the guidelines for the content:
Analyze and explain the chapter’s main point regarding the tradeoff between the human desire for both stability and growth. What does this fundamental tradeoff have to do with economic policy? What does this tradeoff have to do with creative destruction? Give examples mentioned in the text of how certain countries have made this tradeoff. Also make sure to give your own opinion on his overall message and whether you think there are some points he may be missing.
