The Continental Op

Describe and analyze the language used in Dashiel Hammetts story (The Continental Op): The Ops language in telling the story and the dialogue used between the characters. How do these styles of language (there might be more than one) have on the story and how does it affect the reader? What does it tell us about the characters? (You may compare/contrast it to a Conan Doyle story, but do more than that.)
