Students will select one of the areas in need of biblical change from the list below and write a 10-12 page research paper about it according to the outline below. NOTE: The purpose of this paper is to introduce the student to the process of thinking through a particular issue.

·

Depression

·

Anxiety

·

Lust

·

Grief

Your paper should be comprised of the follow sections:

(1)

Experience of the Problem (3-4pp.)
Describe how a person may be experiencing this particular trouble.  What are circumstances that may contribute to this trouble (HEAT)? What are some manifestations and consequences of it in his life (THORNS)?  What questions might you ask to draw him out?

(2)

Biblical/Theological Considerations (4-5pp.)
How does Scripture speak of this trouble generally?  Use exegesis and/or larger doctrinal arguments to show your case from Scripture.  What does freedom from this struggle look like, according to Scripture (FRUIT)?

(3)

Speaking the Gospel (2pp.)
How would you commend faith in the finished work of Christ to a person in this situation (CROSS)?  How would you use the various ministries of the Word in the local church to complement your counseling?

Use plenty of research (minimum 12 sources), which can include biblical commentaries, theological discussions, counseling books, and more.
