Oftentimes we need to play a role in order to achieve a goal. For example, if I am interviewing for an intern position at the White House, how should I present myself? The key word in that sentence is present. Sometimes the presentation is the most important part of achieving a goal or impacting a change, and so forth. Should I go in my everyday casual clothes? Jeans, tennis shoes, t-shirt, or not? And why not? It is not a secret that stereotypes exist and we all have judged a book by its cover at one time or another. We might have been right or we might have been wrong, but we definitely don’t want to be on the end of that judgment when trying to achieve our goals.
