Project description
Paper Instructions:
Brief introduction to the language
its language family
where it is spoken (country/countries, region/province, etc.)
how many language speakers
how many dialects (if you can find the information)
other pertinent/interesting information
(www.ethnologue.com is a good source to find the information.)
Brief description of the native speakers:
– where they are from (country, region/province, town): Mexico
– dialect of the native speaker
– what other language/s he/she speaks
– how long he/she has been abroad (US and/or elsewhere)
Their dialect is central west dialect of Mexican Spanish. The speakers are from Mexico, Coahuayana de Hidalgo, and Michoacan. Thus they were born and lived in the USA all their life, they are bilingual.
Description of the phonology of the language:
vowel inventory
consonant inventory
any important/pertinent phonological processes that would help you determine the sound
inventory (underlying phonemes); for example: Do underlying vowels have allophones in
stressed vs. unstressed position? Do voiceless stops become voiced intervocalically? etc.)
The stress rules of Spanish language.
– include examples from the data you elicit
To write this section, answer the following questions:
– Where do you record your speaker? (In a quiet room? In a recording booth?)
– What equipment do you use to record the speaker? (recorder? Computer? Software?)
– How do you analyze your recorded data?
The native speakers recorded the words in a private house. The gadget that was used for recording is iPhone 6s app, which is called Recorder Pro v.3.0. To analyze recorded data 20 of recorded words were chosen, where the stops /p/, /t/. /k/ were used in the syllables in different position, word-initial, word-medial or intervocalic. Then acoustic was analyzed using PRAAT on Windows 10 operating system. The duration of VOT was measured.
Description and discussion on the acoustic characteristics of the voiceless stops p, t, and k.
-Analyze the results provided on the word file named (Measurements 1).
I have included a (two-way anova analysis) which was done on Excel. *ask me if you cannot read the statistics properly.
I considered the number of syllables and three positions which are (word-initial, word-medial, and intervocalic) as factors.
-Compare the results with previously published sources results for (p, t, k) VOT.
-I considered that all the words has the stress on the syllable where the measured phoneme is.
CITE EVERY SINGLE THING PROPERLY, PLEASE. THE PROFESSOR IS VERY VERY VERY STRICT ABOUT CITATION, REFRENCING, AND PLAYGARIZM.
