Choose one of the following questions to write about.

-Examine the way that popular advertising in any medium demonstrates the truth of Lao-Tzu’s contention that “there is no disaster greater than not being content.” Show how advertising makes it impossible for anyone who is its victim to be content. What is the result of advertising’s success in making people discontented?

-How would Lao-tzu critique the society in which you live? What would he recommend to you as worthwhile behavior, and what would he condemn? Would you feel it possible to argue against his critique and maintain a worthwhile and virtuous path of behavior for yourself?

- Define the terms ends and means, and explain why they are important.

-Compare Machiavelli’s advice with the behavior of a politician, past or present. Would you evaluate this person as a good leader? A successful one? What’s the difference? Is Machiavelli on the right track with his advice?
